Training & Support

Training
Building a team of great Associate Dealers involves more than finding the right candidates. Canadian Tire recognizes the necessity of providing a comprehensive training program to ensure new Associate Dealers are prepared to run an efficient and profitable business and lead their teams in the Canadian Tire Way.

We recognize that our Associate Dealers come from a range of backgrounds, and bring with them a variety of skills, knowledge and experience. As such, we offer our candidates an extensive four- to twelve-month training program, customized to meet their individual learning needs. Learning takes place in certified learning stores, in classroom settings, through the Internet, and through collaboration with peers and mentors. A candidate's progress through the program is closely monitored and adjustments to learning paths are made as required.

Store Placement
Once your training is complete, you will be placed at your first store upon availability, usually for about a two-year period. This entry-level store will be selected by Canadian Tire, with consideration given to your geographic preference. If performance expectations are met, you may qualify under the Mobility System terms and be offered a larger volume store. You are free to accept or decline the offer and can remain in your current store.

Why Canadian Tire?

Central Purchasing and Distribution of Merchandise

Marketing and Promotion
Canadian Tire coordinates and shares in the cost of national promotions and advertising for the retail network. You can also engage in local promotions, subject to Canadian Tire standards and pricing requirements.

Ongoing Dealer Development
Keep your skills and knowledge sharp with a variety of development and training programs.

Are You a Good Fit for Canadian Tire?

Your Qualifications
While successful Associate Dealers come from a variety of backgrounds, there are a number of characteristics that they share. Our selection process is designed to identify these qualities.

The candidates we are looking for are well-rounded individuals who have a positive attitude for success and the passion and dedication necessary to excel. Self-motivation is key. It means you are ready to commit, to be proactive, to deliver results, and to continue learning and growing. While we ask that you demonstrate a degree of financial acumen, specific retail experience is not essential. We look at the skills and knowledge you've gained in other industries and see how they can be transferred to retail.

Your Investment
Along with a good mix of experience and personal characteristics, we are seeking candidates willing to make a personal and financial investment. You will need a minimum of $125,000 of accessible capital to become an Associate Dealer. In addition, as a successful dealer candidate, you will be charged a Dealer Training and Development Fee of $100,000 upon receiving your first store. This non-refundable fixed fee can be financed.
